Shine is dedicated to the students of Franklin Elementary in Provo, Utah.

Our choir teacher, Miss Spurlock, composed this song with a desire to write a catchy pop anthem that championed our worth as human beings, the importance of service to help us feel joy, and the cause of seeking voices that teach truth.

It premiered in Franklin’s school fine arts program in 2017, and to our great pleasure, the students loved singing it.

We had many discussions during the learning process about how to fight feelings of inferiority and low self-esteem and we shared examples with each other of when we felt happiest in life. These usually included little anecdotes of students being kind to one another, meeting the physical or emotional needs of a friend (or enemy!), and humble actions of selflessness. The students taught us more about the power we have to choose to spread beauty and love. In the process, we all can progress toward better versions of ourselves.

Nuestra maestra de coro, la señorita Spurlock, compuso esta canción con el deseo de escribir un himno pop pegadizo que defendiera nuestro valor como seres humanos, la importancia del servicio para ayudarnos a sentir alegría y la causa de buscar voces que enseñen la verdad. Se estrenó en el programa de bellas artes de la escuela de Franklin en 2017 y, para nuestro gran placer, a los estudiantes les encantó cantarla.

Tuvimos muchas discusiones durante el proceso de aprendizaje sobre cómo combatir los sentimientos de inferioridad y baja autoestima y compartimos ejemplos de cuándo nos sentimos más felices en la vida. Por lo general, incluían pequeñas anécdotas de estudiantes que eran amables entre sí, satisfacían las necesidades físicas o emocionales de un amigo (¡o enemigo!) y acciones humildes de desinterés. Los estudiantes nos enseñaron más sobre el poder que tenemos de elegir para difundir la belleza y el amor. En el proceso, todos podemos progresar hacia mejores versiones de nosotros mismos.
